Care Tips

How To:

SHEETS

Wash your sheets before use and at least every week. Set laundry to gentle cycle, with water temperature no more than warm. Avoid detergents with harsh chemicals as they can be too severe for the fine cotton in our products.

Shake out your sheets and tumble dry on low heat. Natural fibers are prone to wrinkle. Shaking out your linens before drying and removing promptly once dry will help to smooth them out. For the ultimate crisp look, use a warm iron.

TOWELS

Wash your towels before use and at least every few days. Set laundry to gentle cycle, with water temperature no more than warm. Do not mix colors. Avoid detergents with harsh chemicals as they can be too severe for the fine cotton in our products. On the first wash, we recommend adding 1 cup of distilled white vinegar to the laundry to set the color of the towels and make them more absorbent.

After washing, shake out your towels and tumble dry on low heat.  Remove promptly from the dryer and enjoy your towels!

DOWN, DOWN ALTERNATIVE PILLOWS AND DUVETS

For pillows, professionally launder or machine wash cold in a large capacity or commercial washer.

It is most important that the down and down alternative is thoroughly dried. Dry on low heat and use dryer balls to assist with the fluff factor.  It may take drying in several cycles to ensure the pillow is completely dry.

For down and down alternative duvet inserts, you will need a large capacity washing machine in order to launder. It is best to send these to be professionally cleaned or go to your local laundromat. Never force an insert into a small machine, it will over tax your machine and will not do a good job of cleaning.

Wash down and down alternative duvets on a delicate setting on cold. Transfer to your dryer and use either air dry or a low heat setting.  Dry your insert in 30-minute increments until completely dry.  It could take 4 to 8 hours to completely dry.  Down alternative dries more quickly than down.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I change and wash my sheets and towels?
You should change your bed sheets at least once a week.  If you are a warm sleeper you should consider a sheet refresh every 4 days.

Should I wash sheets and towels separately?
It’s always a good idea to wash sheets and towels separately because towels take longer to dry than sheets, which means your sheets are in the dryer for longer than necessary.

What is the best detergent to use on Peacock Alley?
Le Blanc® linen wash is our favorite. It’s gentle, cleans like a dream and smells even better.

Should I use fabric softener on my Peacock Alley Linens?
Our products are so soft, they don’t need liquid fabric softener! Using softener can damage the natural fibers and compromise the absorbency of our towels.

Should I be using hot water for my laundry?
For sheets and towels, warm water is great, for duvets, shams and coverlets we recommend a cold wash as this helps with colorfastness and shrinkage.

How often should I wash my towels?
For towels we recommend washing more often to keep them their freshest. You can wash up to every second day or at least once a week.

Is there a recommended temperature setting for towels, so they dry more quickly?
We suggest a warm setting for drying, the secret is to not overload the dryer.  Four towels at a time works best.

What do I do if you have a pulled thread on a bath towel?
We have all done this and the cure is super simple, just trim the thread off.  The loops on a bath towel are all tied in a knot at the base of the loop and will not run if trimmed.

Is it true that some lotions and toothpastes can stain my towels?
Yes, certain skin and oral care products
they can fade and spot towels and pillowcases. We recommend using a white towel if you are using whitening toothpastes or skincare with benzoyl peroxide.

Am I crazy, or did my linens shrink?
Shrinking is normal – we planned for it! All cotton and cotton blend fabrics undergo some shrinkage after the first wash. Do not fear! Designed with this in mind, our linens will still fit perfectly even after a  little shrinkage.

How do it get less wrinkles in my sheets without ironing?
To reduce wrinkles, wash and dry your fitted sheets separately. This will keep your flat sheets and cases from getting balled up inside the fitted corners.

How often should I wash my pillow?
Once every two months is a good rule of thumb. Peacock Alley pillows come with a pillow protector that you can wash as often as you like. Washing the pillow protector will help extend the life of your pillow.

How can I freshen up my down without washing it?
Putting your down pillows and duvets outside in direct sunlight will freshen them naturally between full cleanings.

How can I keep my down fresh and fluffy?
Every few months, to help keep moisture down and the fluffing up, toss your down duvet into a front-loading dryer set on air or low heat.
